What is CITES permit?

CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, also known as the Washington Convention) is a multilateral treaty to protect endangered plants and animals. Its aim is to ensure that international trade in specimens of wild animals and plants does not threaten the survival of the species in the wild, and it accords varying degrees of protection to more than 35,000 species of animals and plants.

A CITES permit is shipment specific that regulates international trade in specimens of species of wild fauna and flora listed in appendices on the basis of a system of permits and certificates which are issued only when certain conditions are met, and which must be presented when leaving and entering a country.

The fees for CITES permits and clearance are as follows:

CITES Permit Cost $100 per shipment
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Declaration (3-177) Fee $186 per shipment
Courier Fee (120 miles driving + 4 hours staff time) $150 per shipment
Again,  *LEATHER HIDES/FINISHED LEATHER SKINS CANNOT BE RETURNED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE DUE TO CITES/CUSTOMS REGULATIONS*
